Franklin Delano Atkinson Sr.

September 5, 1933 - May 14, 2019

Franklin Delano Atkinson Sr. of Dauphin Island, Alabama passed away May 14, 2019 in Mobile, Alabama at the age of 85 years. He was born September 5, 1933 in Annapolis, Missouri the son of the late Eldred and Freda (Casteel) Atkinson. On October 10, 1952 he was united in marriage to Virgie Lucille Henson. She survives and resides on Dauphin Island. To this union three children were born; Frank D. Atkinson Jr. and wife Melissa of St. Louis, Missouri, Carol A. Arthur (proceeds him in death) and husband, John, and Karen Tafra and husband, Mike of Dauphin Island, Alabama. Frank is also survived by his brother; William Atkinson and wife Patricia of St. Louis, Missouri, his sister; Mattie Ann Evans of Potosi, Missouri; grandchildren Joshua M. Arthur (Ann), Jennifer R. Winschel (Kevin), Lindsey N. Kraemer (Mark) all of St. Louis, Missouri, Michael A. Tafra Jr., Marie C. Sisk (Haden), Mitchell L. Tafra all of Dauphin Island and John T. Arthur who proceeds him in death. He is the great grandfather to Bradyn J., Emma C., and Jack H. Winschel; Carson B. and Parker C. Kraemer; Rosalie C. and John D. Arthur. He is the nephew of Doris Wilheim of St. Louis, Missouri and Howard Casteel of Annapolis, Missouri as well as being an uncle and cousin to many. Frank and Virgie have lived in St. Louis, Annapolis, Pilot Knob, and most recently Dauphin Island, Alabama. He was a member of the Annapolis Church of the Nazarene for many years. He was very active in church activities, especially helping with church meals. Frank retired from Yellow Freight Company after thirty years of service. He enjoyed spending time with his family. Memorials may be made to Annapolis Church of the Nazarene or the Annapolis Cemetery Association.
