Carole Marie Evelyn (Piening) Douma, formerly of Ironton, Missouri passed away August 27, 2021, in Farmington, Missouri at the age of 85 years. She was born July 31, 1936 in St. Louis, Missouri, the daughter of the late Russell William Frederick and Edna Rose (Schmalenberger) Piening. On June 21, 1958, Carole was united in marriage to Harry Douma who preceded her in death on January 18, 2011. To this union three children were born: Daniel Douma (Kimberly) of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Joy Booth (Larry) of Farmington, Missouri, and Crystal Mace of Desloge, Missouri. Carole was preceded in death by her sisters Nita Delesdenier and Patricia Murray and a great granddaughter, Amber Lynn. She is also survived by five grandchildren: Heather, Miriam, Timothy, Maleah, and Carl, and one great grandson, Liam, as well as a host of other relatives and friends. Carole was a member of Penuel Fellowship Church. She co-directed Camp Penuel with her husband, Harry, from the camp’s beginning in 1973 until her retirement in 2011. Carole loved the Lord and dedicated her life to serving Him. Her greatest joys were her husband, children and grandchildren. She loved photography and was the camp’s first photographer. She ran the PennyWise thrift store for many years, and she was a Mom to the camp staff. She was a school teacher at Pilot Knob and Arcadia Valley. In addition to all these things she was a published author and a gifted artist. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 2, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. from Bryson Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be on Wednesday evening from 4:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Memorials may be made to Camp Penuel.
